The possibility to be anonymous or pseudonymous relies on you not revealing any identifying information about yourself…” — Satoshi Nakamoto

Whether you’re anonymous on crypto and NFT Twitter or not, there are always infringements being made on our privacy and data. Unfortunately, it’ll require some effort to make sure you’re aware and the info out there about you is to your comfort level. Mass adoption of cryptocurrency is a great opportunity for many to take their financial future into their own hands and security is equally relevant.

Security and privacy in cryptocurrency shouldn’t be only discussed in the context of potential hacking. Individuals with $0 of crypto to their name should still be vigilant about staying safe. Knowing these tools exist can help you take steps in the right direction with your online security procedures.

DeleteMe

DeleteMe is a platform that aims to remove personal information on the internet about you. Though employing a company to remove information about you seems odd, especially when you’re providing them with what to remove, there is still some value in doing so. DeleteMe has tools to control & remove what a google search could reveal about you.

IMEI.Check

Every phone has a unique International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number. IMEI.Check is a service that checks your IMEI. Think of it as your phone’s credit card number. With your IMEI, you can be tracked from anywhere. IMEI.Check is a tool that helps to retrieve information on your device and identifies whether your IMEI number has been compromised.

Wigle.Net

Wigle.net shows worldwide WiFi networks on a map. Navigating this site is another reminder to change your home wifi address regularly. SSID is your WIFI name and it’s smart to change it regularly. Similar to maintaining your car, WIFI maintenance is necessary as well. Tech will only get more detailed and precise, especially location services.

OpenCellID

With OpencellID, you can geolocate IoT & mobile devices without GPS. This platform is global, has new & historical data, and can locate devices. With so much information, it could be used by anyone, including bad actors.

Passwords

Last but certainly not least, passwords are underrated. Passwords are critical to privacy and security. Only about 45% of people would change their passwords even after a breach. Password hygiene is the most overlooked and underutilized aspect of staying safe online and offline.

All these tools are helpful and of benefit once password hygiene is taken seriously. I believe online safety is as important as ever before, especially those that are present in online communities such as crypto and NFTs.
